the essentials in brief

  • Novak Djokovic is making headlines again in sporting terms.
  • The Serb doesn’t give Lorenzo Musetti a chance in the first round in Dubai.
  • The spectators in the stands stand up for the Serbs.

This will do Novak Djokovic good!

The Serb is enthusiastically celebrated by the fans on his comeback on the tennis court in Dubai. As soon as they walked onto the court, the spectators held Serbian flags in the air, shouted and applauded.

After his easy two-set victory in the first lap against the young Italian Lorenzo Musetti (19), Nole even received a standing ovation.

He really enjoyed it, says the winner in an interview on the pitch: “I couldn’t have asked for better reception.”

The tennis world is happy that the world number 1 is finally making headlines again with racket and felt ball. And the 20-time Grand Slam winner is known to be able to do that a lot better than collecting plus points in public.

The entry drama before the Australian Open, the wrong corona test and the quarantine hotel showed this again.

Happy about Djokovic’s return

“Most of the players I’ve met here in the last few days have been friendly to me,” says Djokovic in Dubai. “The majority welcomed me and said it’s nice to see me back on the tour.”

Will Novak Djokovic win the tournament in Dubai?

In the second round, the 34-year-old now meets the winner of the game between Alex de Minaur and Karen Khachanov.
