The coverage reviewed the ministerial decision issued by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health, regarding the regulation of the process that allows qualified pharmacists to administer medicines through intramuscular or subcutaneous injections to patients, after reviewing the stipulated controls..

Dr Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, said the decision came after coordination and consultation between the ministry and concerned authorities represented in the (House of Representatives Health Committee, Doctors Union , Union of Pharmacists, Egyptian Medicines Authority), in order to guarantee the rights of pharmacists and facilitate patient care..

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, indicated that the regulations required the pharmacist to have a training course at hospitals of the Ministry of Health or its affiliated agencies, as well as the existence of a prescription in which the attending physician expected the patient to be injected with a specific treatment to cure him. .

Abdel Ghaffar said that the minister had confirmed that advanced training courses for medical team members will be organized in all governorates of the republic in the coming days, and that the necessary certificates and licenses will be issued to guarantee the safety of patients, underlining that the Minister was briefed on the training package prepared by specialists from the Ministry of Health, where he stressed that the provision of adequate rehabilitation is no less important than the existence of a legal framework regulating all medical procedures.

Abdel Ghaffar added that the minister stressed that the health and safety of the Egyptian patient is a top priority for the Ministry of Health, stressing that the ministerial decision was to not give injections to patients unless there is a doctor’s prescription treating doctor who requests to inject the patient with the requested drug, in addition to the condition that the pharmacist must pass training courses at the Ministry of Health or the bodies indicated by the Ministry, and the decision also included ensuring the availability of anti-allergic drugs, and do not give patients anything but only intramuscular and subcutaneous injections..

For his part, Dr Ashraf Hatem, chairman of the health committee of the House of Representatives, praised the rapid intervention of the Ministry of Health to resolve the crisis, stressing that these legislations would preserve the medical team and the lives of patients, which include setting up regulatory controls to allow qualified pharmacists to administer injections to patients..

In his speech, Dr. Hussein Khairy, head of the Doctors’ Union, praised the solidarity of the concerned authorities and the adoption of common decisions and laws that guarantee the rights of pharmacists and regulate the process of injecting patients to preserve their health and security..

Abdel Nasser Sengab, a member of the committee overseeing the Pharmacists’ Union, said the union was working hard to protect pharmacists, alongside ensuring Egyptian patient safety, praising the Health Ministry’s move on the matter and the speed of take measures in the interest of the citizen and the pharmacist.
