Razzia in Yangon

Myanmar forces shut down a neighborhood in Yangon, the country’s largest city, last night. There is a lot of demonstration in that district.

All houses in the neighborhood have been searched and according to eyewitnesses dozens of people have been arrested. The security forces mainly targeted houses with a flag of Aung San Suu Kyi’s party hanging from the balcony.

The military is also trying to limit free reporting on the crisis. Yesterday, the permits of five local news channels that reported extensively about the protests were withdrawn, so that they are no longer allowed to broadcast.

Also yesterday many companies such as shops, banks and also schools were closed in protest against the coup.

Post-coup demonstrations

Since the military seized power in Myanmar early last month and detained political leader Aung San Suu Kyi, there have been daily demonstrations. Many young people participate in this.

The police crack down on those protests and shoot at protesters with live ammunition. Activists say more than 60 people have been killed and more than 1,800 arrested so far.
