Salzburg’s youth must be included in the redesign of the Rudolfskai
Salzburg (OTS) – The redesign of the Rudolfskai in the city of Salzburg has met with great criticism from the student representatives in Salzburg. “To want to design a quay for ‘everyone’, but to push young people and especially students, but also alternative forms of culture to the outskirts, is a clear contradiction. The Rudolfskai has to remain a place for young people ”, clarifies Lara Simonitsch, 1st deputy chairwoman of the ÖH Uni Salzburg.
According to the city government’s previously announced plans, seven of the ten existing nightspots are to be closed and replaced by wine bars and restaurants. “The infrastructure for students will be further thinned out with the planned closings of the popular bars; it seems as if the old town of Salzburg has space for beautiful architecture that can be used in a representative way, but the people who fill these houses with life are not really welcome there, ”says the team from the sociology student council.
According to the ÖH, Salzburg already offers few opportunities for students and a young alternative cultural scene. “Now one of the few places in the city of Salzburg where young people were welcome should be taken away from them,” criticized Manuel Gruber, 2nd deputy chairman of the ÖH University of Salzburg. “An upgrading is generally positive, but portraying young people almost across the board as troublemakers who do not deserve a place in the cultural city of Salzburg is clearly to be rejected. Rather, young people in particular need spaces and places where they can meet and exchange ideas, ”add Gruber and Simonitsch.
Therefore, the demands of the student representatives on the city are correspondingly clear, as Laura Reppmann, chairwoman of the ÖH Uni Salzburg explains: “Students and young people must be heard about the planned redesign of the Rudolfskai and taken seriously in the further implementation. Otherwise, Salzburg threatens to lose even more of its attractiveness for young people. We get involved, but we also need to be aware that young people and students are the future of this city. “
