We are investigating Continental employees for fraud and providing false documentation, Reuters sttn Oliver Eisenhauer told Reuters. He added that among the accused are seven engineers and two project leaders.
Continental said in a statement that several of its offices were transparent and that they were cooperating with the series. He declined to comment.
A spokesman for Volkswagen said the carmaker was cooperating in the role of witness because it had agreed to settle with prosecutors in Braunschweig.
In response to allegations from the US, the Volkswagen Group in 2015 admitted that it had installed software in around 11 million diesel cars worldwide that could handle emission tests.
