Nine more cases of coronavirus in Portugal. Total amounts to 30

The Directorate-General for Health announced on Sunday in a statement that the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 had increased to 30.

Among the nine cases confirmed from Saturday to Sunday is one in the Algarve, of a 16-year-old girl, the first in the southernmost region of Portugal.

According to a statement from the Directorate-General for Health, there are 22 confirmed cases in northern Portugal, one in the center, six in Lisbon and another in the Algarve. There are 56 suspected cases awaiting laboratory results and 447 people under surveillance by health authorities.

According to DGS, four transmission chains are active in Portugal.

All patients with the new coronavirus are hospitalized. Of the total number of patients, 18 are men and 12 are women.

Of the 22 confirmed cases, five are of young people between 10 and 19 years old (2 boys and three girls), two between 20 and 29 years old (one of each sex), three men and one woman in the age group from 30 to 39 years old and 10 people aged between 40 and 49 years old (six men and four women). Over 50 years old there are three men with confirmed cases and three over 60 (plus a woman). There are also two female persons in the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

In Portugal, 30 cases of infection are confirmed and the Government has announced the temporary suspension of visits to hospitals, homes and prisons in the North.

Some secondary and university education establishments have also been temporarily closed.

The Minister of Health, Marta Temido, admitted that the risk of the epidemic in Portugal could be reassessed in the coming hours, and lead to the adoption of new exceptional measures.
