This civic and united initiative was born from the agents of the department.
“The Couturières Solidaires operation is a tremendous mobilization of residents and associations of neighborhoods benefiting from the city policy in Nîmes: it is intended for making anti-spray masks for the most vulnerable audiences in these same neighborhoods”, notes Denis Bouad, president of the Departmental Council.
The idea for this civic and united initiative was born from the agents of this department. These, who support the associations every day, asked them, during this period of confinement, to mobilize their users on this operation, not only united but above all very useful in the perspective of the deconfinement of the almost 15,000 inhabitants of Pissevin-Valdegour .
Objective, 1,000 masks
“We are concerned for the elderly, isolated, sick, disabled, explains one of these agents. This is why we have imagined this action which will allow a large quantity of fabric masks to be produced quickly and efficiently. “
The Mille Couleurs associative social center coordinates it. “ With the authorization to circulate that my employer gave me, I take care of recovering the kits for making masks at the Department to deliver them to the voluntary seamstresses “, explains director Raouf Azzouz. Many associations have stepped forward and continue to volunteer to mobilize their seamstresses: Au Fil d´Or, Sabrina, Soleil Levant, Parents Animés, Le Pimms, Le Journal de Valdegour, Amaos …
More than twenty seamstresses responded and the associations lent sewing machines. “The kit we provide includes fabric, fleece, thread, elastics, pattern, manufacturing tutorials for around thirty AFNOR certified masks”, specifies the agent of the Department.
By mid-week Raouf Azzouz had distributed around forty kits to the seamstresses and already around twenty masks in the neighborhood. “At the end of the confinement, we will have manufactured and given more than 1000 protective masks”, he concludes.
