New Zealand Tourist Robbed in Violent Attack in Paris Metro: Minor Arrested

A New Zealand tourist was the victim of a robbery in the corridors of the Paris metro, learned Le Figaro from a police source. The facts date back to Saturday evening. The victim, a septuagenarian on vacation in France, was moving to the Strasbourg-Saint-Denis station to take the metro. She wore around her neck several valuable jewels: a gold chain, as well as a diamond pendant.

As the tourist was about to take her correspondence, an individual appeared, violently snatching her chain and her pendant before fleeing. In the violence of the shock, the victim was thrown to the ground and hit his head. Supported by firefighters, the latter was led by regional transport security officers to file a complaint.

The 17-year-old defendant

In the process, the analysis of CCTV images led to the arrest of the respondent in the 10th arrondissement, less than 2 hours after the events. During the searches, the police found on him the gold chain stolen from the victim, as well as another chain recovered during another theft perpetrated in the same metro station. Aged 17 and in an irregular situation, the young man was placed in police custody.

Pursue robberies are numerous in the streets of the capital. The same night, boulevard de Clichy in the 18th arrondissement, a young woman was also the victim of the theft of her gold chain by two underage individuals. A police source indicated that the latter had been arrested and taken into custody.
