New York’s Love for Dogs: The Rise of ‘Covid Dogs’ and Luxury Canine Services

They are small or big, adorable or grumpy, but they have one thing in common: They are treated like kings! In New York, dogs are everywhere. In parks with their owners, on sidewalks for daily walks but also in spa hotels entirely dedicated to canine well-being. Without forgetting the extravagance of certain shops which even offer macaroons for them…. Arnaud Tousch, the new correspondent for RTL and M6 in the United States, tells us about New Yorkers’ love for their pets.

These dogs are called “Covid dogs”. Some New Yorkers were sometimes feeling a little lonely during the Covid-19 pandemic, and decided to adopt a dog, as many of them were working from home. Their numbers have exploded. The last official figure that is known dates from 2012: there were 600,000 dogs in New York, and around 500,000 cats. But according to dog hotels, they are now forced to refuse people, which was not the case five years ago.

Car New Yorkers are willing to do almost anything for their pets. In traditional parks, they are allowed provided they are on a leash. But in some places, animals can stretch their legs freely with their neighborhood friends. Just like their owners who take the opportunity to meet up and tell each other the latest gossip in the neighborhood…
