New York. The Edge, the new highest viewpoint in the west, opened

The sky is not the limit but only the beginning for The Edge, the new highest vantage point in the Western Hemisphere located atop a skyscraper at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and 34th Street in Manhattan.

On the 10th floor, with walls and a glass floor, at more than 330 meters high, it is literally the closest to the sky of the Big Apple that you can be. From the heart of Hudson Yards, the trendy neighborhood on Manhattan’s West Side, The Edge, invites you to experience a new 360 degree panoramic view that reaches the neighborhoods of Brooklyn, Queens, all of Central Park and a large part of New Jersey. The viewpoint, a 700 m2 triangular area, is surrounded by 79 glass panels that form an angle that allows you to look out over the city. It is not suitable for people with vertigo. The panels eliminate any visual barrier and produce the feeling of flying over the Manhattan sky. Each weighs 635 kilos in weight and was manufactured between Germany and Italy. The ride to the top is short – just 60 seconds by elevator.

The viewpoint had its grand opening on March 11, 2020 but had to temporarily close a few days later due to the beginning of the lockdown worldwide because of Covid-19. It reopened to the public on September 2, 2020.

The neighborhood

The viewpoint, part of the new Hudson Yards real estate development, until a few years ago occupied by factories, is the culmination of this new neighborhood, located between streets 30 and 34 on the banks of the Hudson River, the result of the urban explosion in New York.

To ensure a safe and socially distant experience for all visitors, The Edge has been working in collaboration with the Mount Sinai Health System to implement a series of new improved measures in accordance with guidelines issued by federal, state, and local authorities including: increased and rigorous cleaning procedures; operate with reduced capacity; programmed tickets with staggered arrival to avoid queues and crowds; required temperature testing using non-contact thermal scanners; flexible ticket policies; markings on the floor throughout the experience to help maintain an adequate distance between visitors and employees and elevators operating with reduced capacities. All visitors and employees must wear face masks.

The Edge It will be open seven days a week throughout the year. The current hours are from 12 to 20. Tickets are available on their website.
