New York Governor imposes new restrictions in response to increasing number of infections – O Jornal Económico

Andrew Cuomo, governor of New York, imposed a new set of restrictive measures as a way to stop the significant increase in new infections and the overload of the city’s health system. Bars, restaurants and gyms will have to close at 10 pm.

Cuomo also ordered limiting the number of people who can attend private parties to a maximum of 10. The new measures, which take effect on Friday, November 13, come a day after California and several states of midwest increase restrictions on residents as a way to try to stem the rapid spread of the virus.

“This is our last chance to catch a second wave,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted this Wednesday as he announced that the average seven-day rate for positive coronavirus tests across the city reached 2, 52%. The city’s public school system, the largest in the country, will no longer have face-to-face classes if that number reaches 3%. “We can do this, but we have to act now,” said de Blasio.

As Covid-19 infections, hospitalizations and deaths increase in the United States, signs are beginning to emerge that a second wave may affect areas of the Northeast, which managed to keep the pandemic in check after the first wave last spring.
