New York declared a state of emergency due to storm

The Mayor of New York declares the city in a state of emergency.

An accumulation of more than a foot of snow has been forecast.

Travel restrictions are in effect from six in the morning: only essential vehicles can circulate.

Since Sunday, de Blasio has asked New Yorkers to stay home.

“Snow is coming to our city and we are working hard to protect all New Yorkers. Starting tonight we must be careful on the streets. Do not drive or stay home until it is safe to go out. Our city always recovers and it is snowing. it will be another example of how we move forward, “said the Mayor.

These are the changes that apply today:

  • All public school students have distance classes.
  • School campuses are closed, and so are after-school programs.
  • The alternate parking rules are suspended until tomorrow.
  • The restaurant program in Open Streets is canceled.
  • The city is under “Code Blue,” which means that homeless New Yorkers cannot be denied entry to shelters.
  • The coronavirus vaccination program also has changes.
  • All appointments for today are being rescheduled.

For their part, elementary students from Catholic schools will have a traditional snow day.

This, after the Archdiocese of New York announced that all elementary schools will be closed and that distance classes will not be taught.
