New Volkswagen CEO to lead transition to a more sustainable future NOW

Volkswagen has appointed Ralf Brandstätter as new CEO on Monday evening. He will take over from Herbert Diess, who will remain as chairman of the board of the umbrella Volkswagen Group. Brandstätter should ensure the rollout of electric cars.

In addition, the new CEO must supervise the digitization at Volkswagen. The brand has been frequently in the news in both areas in recent months.

The ID.3, the first of a new generation of electric cars, is said to have software problems. Earlier this month, Volkswagen had to interrupt the delivery of the new Golf due to similar problems.

Brandstätter has worked at Volkswagen since 1993 and had progressed to Chief Operating Officer (COO). In the meantime, he was also active with Volkswagen subsidiary Seat. Brandstätter starts on July 1 as CEO.
