Russia is rapidly becoming the main outcast on the planet

Kremlin speaker Dmitry Peskov, well-known Russian oligarchs and large banks fell under restrictive measures.

The leadership of Western countries has introduced new extensive sanctions against Russia for its armed aggression against Ukraine. This became known on Monday, February 28.

So, today the European Union imposed sanctions against 26 well-known Russians, reported in the Official Journal of the EU. Among them are the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov, the owners of the Alfa Group consortium Mikhail Fridman and Petr Avena, the main owner of Severstal Alexei Mordashov, the chief executive officer of Rosneft Igor Sechin and the president of Transneft Nikolai Tokarev, co-owner of Sheremetyevo airport Alexander Ponomarenko.

Also on the sanctions list were Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, head of the Ministry of Construction of the Russian Federation Irek Fayzullin, Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Vitaly Savelyev.

In addition, restrictive measures were introduced against the actor and film director Tigran Keosayan, the host of the 60 minutes program on Russia-1 TV channel Olga Skabeeva, as well as Sergei Roldugin, a cellist, conductor and entrepreneur close to President Vladimir Putin.

In addition, the large Russian insurance company SOGAZ fell under the sanctions.

The sanctions come into force on the day the relevant decision is published in the Official Journal of the EU, that is, 28 February.

In turn, the United States imposed sanctions against the Central Bank of the Russian Federation and the Russian Direct Investment Fund, informed American State Department.

“The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Department of the Treasury (OFAC) has prohibited any U.S. person from engaging in any transactions involving the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, the National Wealth Fund of the Russian Federation, or the Treasury Department of the Russian Federation. In addition, OFAC has imposed blocking sanctions against the Russian Directive Fund investment known as the fund of President Putin and his inner circle, two of its subsidiaries and CEO Kirill Dmitriev.

The U.S. is said to have taken these measures to destroy Russia’s ability to use its international reserves in a way that undermines the impact of U.S. sanctions, as well as to prevent Russia from gaining access to its National Wealth Fund to use in Moscow’s current war against Ukraine.

“We share with our partners and allies the unity of purpose, firm intention and determination to hold Russia accountable for its aggression, especially those responsible for this war of choice,” the message says.

It also became known that the UK will impose sanctions against three Russian banks. This was stated by Foreign Secretary Liz Truss during a speech in the House of Commons, reports Ukrainian truth. These are VEB, Sovcombank and Otkritie Bank.

“Today I can tell the House of Representatives that I will be introducing two new sanctions bills. The first introduces a set of new powers over Russia’s financial sector. It includes the power to prohibit Russian banks from making payments in pounds sterling,” Truss said.

She added that Russian giants such as Gazprom would no longer be able to issue debt or shares in London.

She also announced that the UK would ban exports to Russia from Britain in a number of “critical sectors”. This includes high-tech equipment such as microelectronics, marine and navigational equipment. This will weaken the military-industrial potential of Russia and will become a brake on the Russian economy for many years to come.

While acknowledging that the war “could last months and years,” Truss said Britain was “ready to make economic sacrifices” to support Ukraine and would support sanctions “for as long as it takes.”

The Foreign Minister added that she was “determined to go much further, much further” in the application of sanctions.

Previously it was reported that EU prepares fourth package of sanctions against Russia. In the new sanctions package, in particular, they plan the expulsion of Russian diplomats and restrictions against the entourage of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

UEFA and FIFA have excluded Russia from all football competitions
