New record, Sony sells 1.4 million PS5 consoles in a week

KOMPAS.com – Since its premiere was announced in mid-June, the presence of a PlayStation 5 console ( PS5) received a warm welcome from gamers. The high enthusiasm of fans has even resulted in the console’s stock out on the market.

Even though it’s not even one month after launch, the VGChartz website notes that there are more than 1.48 million PS5 consoles that have been sold.

This number exceeded the PS4 sales figure in the same period, which was 116,000 units. However Sony isn’t the only company launching a brand-new gaming console.

Close to the launch date of the PS5, Microsoft also released two new next-gen consoles, namely Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

In the same period of time, Microsoft has sold more than 1.34 million units of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles.

Although the difference in numbers is not too big, the Xbox sales figures are a combination of two consoles, namely the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S. This figure also does not include the total sales of the PS5 achieved in the second launch session.

Please note that Sony divides the PS5 launch moment into two stages, namely on November 12 and November 19, 2020. On November 12, the new PS5 is officially available in a number of countries including North America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea.

Meanwhile, the figures recorded by VGChartz refer to the total PS5 console sales data until November 14.

Unlike Sony, Microsoft released the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on November 10 in 40 countries.
