The Škoda 706 RTO is often described as the most elegant bus of Czechoslovak production. That’s why nice pieces cost a lot of money today.

You can also see it on the specimen, which is currently for sale in the Czech Republic. The LUX bus from 1969 is owned by its owner valued at 4 million crowns. For comparison: for a similar amount you can have, for example, the new Porsche 911 in a very successful version of the GTS.
But back to the RTO. According to the seller, the bus has only a second owner, is honestly garaged and can boast of very good condition. The interior is said to be original, but well-preserved, the powertrain works as it should, and in 2002 the large Škoda received a new paint. The presence of power steering is also pleasant.

Of the things that would deserve the new owner’s attention, the current owner mentions slight corrosion around the windows and a malfunctioning independent heater and mileage indicator.
The drive is, of course, taken care of by a water-cooled six-cylinder diesel engine with a displacement of 11,781 cm3. In-line engine combined with a five-speed manual transmission provides a maximum output of 118 kW and a maximum torque of 686 Nm
And because it is a long-distance RTO LUX long-distance version, the bus will start up to 85 km / h. For fuel consumption, the available information is from 22 to 28 l / 100 km.
The Škoda 706 RTO was presented to the public for the first time at the Brno Exhibition of Czechoslovak Engineering in 1956, but then still in the form of a prototype. The production itself started in the first months of 1958, in Czechoslovakia production ended in 1972.
