A strong controversy was generated as a result of the publicity of the film “Cuties“, which will be released during the month of September on Netflix.
The Sundance Film Festival winning French film was accused of promoting pedophilia, sparking the #NetflixPedofilia movement on Twitter.
Within the synopsis that was read on various platforms in Spanish, mainly in Spain, it said the following: “Amy is eleven years old and wants to belong to a group of girls her age who dance sensually, then begins to explore femininity and challenge the religious family. “
This accompanied by the promotional image unleashed criticism on social networks, due to the clothes and makeup that these girls appear. So much was the commotion, that they met more than 20,000 signatures on Change.org to get the production out.
Yes in @netflix Nobody saw anything wrong when they considered doing this series, the same is that the police should begin to investigate the private life of one of its directors.

From Netflix they accused the blow and changed the description. “Amy is 11 years old and she is amazed at a dance group of girls. To join them she begins to explore her femininity, challenging your family’s traditions“They also apologized on social media:
“We are very sorry for the inappropriate use of the material used in this film. It was not an adequate representation of the title, so both the image and the description have been updated, “they noted.
Regarding the approach of the film, the director Maïmouna Doucouré explained it in the following way: “It arose when at a neighborhood party I saw a group of 11-year-old girls get on stage and dance in a very sensual way and with very short clothes . I was quite shocked and I wondered if they were aware of their sexual availability. “
We’re deeply sorry for the inappropriate artwork that we used for Mignonnes/Cuties. It was not OK, nor was it representative of this French film which won an award at Sundance. We’ve now updated the pictures and description.
