After a short career in the Japanese League, Spanish football legend Andres Iniesta appears on his way to a new, unexpected challenge.
Former Argentine soccer star Juan Sebastian Veron, president of Argentine club Estudiantes, has confirmed that he has started his efforts to bring Iniesta to Vesel Kobe of Japan.
If the deal takes place, Iniesta, 35, will be joined by his former Barcelona teammates, Javier Mascherano, Estudiantes defender, and Gabriel Milito, the team’s coach, according to Sky News.
Iniesta, owner of the goal of crowning Spain 2010 World Cup, who left the Catalan club in the summer of 2018, his contract with Vesel expires in 2021.
“Today we cannot say that there are negotiations with Iniesta, but yes, there is a conversation,” Veron told the Argentine radio station Radio Rivadavia.
And the former captain of the Argentine team continued: “Trying to sign with Iniesta is something people will not forget, regardless of whether or not it has been achieved.” Veron added: “Mascherano’s joining the club is an important fact, not only for Estudiantes, but also for Argentine football.”
Iniesta has scored 10 goals with Vissel since joining him, knowing that he plays alongside German Lucas Podolski and Belgium’s Thomas Vermaelen.
