Nearly ending reopening, Italy raises daily death toll from coronavirus | Chronicle

Italy This Sunday reported 22 deaths with coronavirus, an upturn in the number of deaths compared to last Saturday, although much lower than those recorded daily in the midst of a pandemic in the country, where more than 34,738 people have already died.

In addition, as reported by the Civil Protection, in the last 24 hours 174 new infections were detected, a figure that rises to cases in Italy to 240,310, the third European country hardest hit by the coronavirus, behind the United Kingdom and Spain.

The death toll of 22 is one of the smallest increases in the entire health crisis, although it is higher than the eight registered yesterday, the lowest since March 1, in the first days of the emergency.

The 174 new infections recorded in the last twenty-four hours also represent one of the smallest increases, in line with the 175 of the previous day.

Italian authorities specified that half of these infections are in the northern region of Lombardy, the one most affected by the pandemic, the EFE agency reported.

Despite the figures, Italy practically concluded its de-escalation, during which some outbreaks emerged in various parts of the country, such as in southern Mondragone, near Naples, where 43 people, including 42 Bulgarian immigrants, tested positive.

In the capital, Rome, the authorities consider the outbreak detected in a restaurant and a bar by the same owner in the municipality of Fiumicino, with nine positive cases, under control.

In Bologna, the capital of Emilia-Romagna, the second region most affected by the pandemic, 107 people tested positive at the Bartolini parcel company plant, among workers and some of their relatives.

Meanwhile, in northern Bergamo, the most lashed city in the country, it will honor its dead with a tribute to the gates of its cemetery which will be attended by the head of state,
Sergio Mattarella and in which the “Requiem” by Gaetano Donizetti will be sung.
