LeBron James was excluded from the Los Angeles Lakers game against the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday under NBA Covid-19 health and safety protocols, the team said.

It was not clear whether he had tested positive for coronavirus, or only in close contact with someone who had.

The Lakers superstar, who was vaccinated, must now show two negative tests before being allowed to return to the field.

If he tested positive, he could be sidelined for ten days, according to US media.

LeBron James and the rest of the Lakers squad were fully vaccinated before the start of the season in order to meet local restrictions in Los Angeles.

Earlier this year, the four-time MVP declined to say if he was going to get the shot. But in September, he said he chose to be vaccinated in order to protect himself and his family.

He has drawn criticism in some quarters, however, after saying it was not his role to encourage other players to get vaccinated.

“I know what I have done for myself and my family. I know what some of my friends have done for their families. But as far as speaking for everyone and their individualities, and the things they want to do, that’s not my job, ”he said in September.
