NATO with an unprecedented gesture of confidence in Bulgaria

NATO has shown an unprecedented gesture of confidence in Bulgaria after the Netherlands announced its readiness to send fifth-generation aircraft to Bulgaria in connection with the Russia-Ukraine conflict. This was stated by the Permanent Representative of Bulgaria to NATO Dragomir Zakov in the program “Speak Now” on BNT. This is the first time such planes have been sent on the eastern flank, Zakov said. “Fifth-generation planes are not sent to an unreliable ally, that is, they trust us,” he boasted.

The Bulgarian representative confirmed the news that NATO will not send troops to Ukraine, even in the event of an invasion by Russia. The reason is that Kiev is not a member of the alliance, but only a partner. However, as a partner, Ukraine can receive diplomatic, logistical and other assistance to build its defense. According to him, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization expects a de-escalation of tensions.
Asked if there was a danger of divisions within NATO over the conflict, he said that the more Russia tried to sow discord, the more member states would step up cooperation.
