National Wrestling Federation President Sanjay Singh rejects Interim Committee, Sports Ministry suspension

02 January 2024, 02:00 AM IST

New Delhi: Suspended president Sanjay Singh will not accept the interim committee formed for the functioning of the National Wrestling Federation. The suspension of the Sports Ministry will also not be accepted. Competitions including Nationals will be proceeded with without cooperating with the Provisional Committee.

On December 24, the Center dismissed the committee chaired by Sanjay Singh, who came to power on December 21, citing hastily announcing national competitions and acting as the proxies of the former ruling body facing sex allegations. Later, the Indian Olympic Association formed a provisional committee for the day-to-day operations of the federation. However, Sanjay Singh said that theirs is a democratically elected committee and no rules have been violated. An executive meeting will be called soon.

Meanwhile, the Interim Committee announced that national camps for men and women will start from February 9 in Sonipat and Patiala. The Asian Games, Olympic Qualifying Tournaments and World Championship Qualifiers are just around the corner. Olympian Bajrang Punia had written a letter to the Ministry of Sports asking for wrestling matches to be held next year, including the Olympics.
