Eighty-five years old Scott with the novelty returns to the genre of historical action epics, as they were except Gladiator his titles 1492: Conquest of Paradise or Heaven kingdom. Czech cinemas will release Napoleon on November 23.

The film tells the story of Napoleon Bonaparte, who lived from 1769 to 1821. During the Great French Revolution, he rose to become a general and later an emperor who controlled most of Western Europe. But his downfall and exile was just as quick.

Dle to Variety.com the film conveys “an original, personal look at Napoleon’s beginnings and his steep, ruthless rise to the throne, all seen through the addictive, often explosive relationship with his wife and one true love, Joséphine”. The authors want to bring the audience closer to Napoleon’s most famous battles and tactical thinking, as well as to capture his nature and complex personality. “I would be the first to admit a mistake. But I don’t make mistakes,” says the protagonist in the trailer.

He will be played by 48-year-old Joaquin Phoenix, who acted in the films Walk The Line, Master and Joker. His wife Joséphine de Beauharnais is played by Vanessa Kirby, known from the Mission: Impossible series or last year’s drama Fragments of a Woman.

“Napoleon has always fascinated me. He came empty-handed, but in the end he controlled everything,” he said director Ridley Scott of Deadline magazine. According to him, in addition to historical battles, the warlord was simultaneously waging a love war with his wife, who was unfaithful to him. “At first he wanted to dominate the world to win her love. When he couldn’t do that, he decided to dominate the world to destroy her. But in the end, he destroyed himself,” Ridley Scott thinks.

The screenplay was written by David Scarpa under the name All the Money in the World. After the world premiere in cinemas, Napoleon will later be shown on the Apple TV+ video library.
