The man suspected of rape committed in the street in January in Nantes and arrested on Wednesday May 27 will be presented at 2 p.m. at the Nantes prosecutor’s office, with a view to the opening of a criminal investigation for rape. The 36-year-old suspect was on a search warrant after a 37-year-old woman filed a complaint on January 19.
The victim had explained to the investigators of the manners brigade that she had been approached by a man, around 2 am, towards the ferry terminal, near the Quai de la Fosse. They talked for a few moments, but when they left, the stranger stopped her. After dropping her to the ground, he then abused her.
To this day, the man still challenges rape. “The investigation will have to determine what happened”, says the Investigation Monitoring Office (BSE) of the Nantes prosecutor’s office, which will request his placement in pre-trial detention.
Witnesses heard by the police at the time, made statements concurring with those of the victim. DNA taken from one of the victim’s clothes made it possible to compare it with that of the 30-something, known to the police.
