Moscow churches will hold services on Easter without parishioners

MOSCOW, Apr 12 – RIA News. Divine services in Moscow and Moscow churches of the Russian Orthodox Church from April 13 to 19 will be held without the participation of parishioners at the request of the city’s sanitary authorities, the letter says to the clergy, First Vicar of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Cyril Metropolitan Dionysius of the Resurrection Moscow and Moscow region, which is posted on the website of the Russian Orthodox Church.–

On Saturday, the Moscow Patriarchate Directorate received an order from the chief state sanitary officer of Moscow, Elena Andreeva. She demanded from April 13 to 19 “to ensure a temporary suspension of citizens’ visits to territories, buildings, structures, structures (premises in them) belonging to and (or) subordinate to the Moscow Patriarchate’s administration for the city of Moscow.” This period may be extended.

An exception is made for clergymen and persons “whose presence is necessary for the worship and the functioning of religious buildings, as well as for online broadcasts of worship.” Andreeva demanded “to take measures to prevent mass events with a large number of people.”

To inform the believers about the innovations “and console them with the paternal word”, Metropolitan Dionysius decided at the end of the Liturgy on the feast of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem.

“It is important to explain to the parishioners that the time restrictions on staying in the church do not deprive them of the opportunity to partake day after day of the great events of the Passion and Resurrection of our Lord through reading the Holy Scriptures, participating in divine services, through home reading of liturgical follow-ups,” the metropolitan emphasized. .

He also conveyed to the clergy the blessing of Patriarch Cyril, “who constantly prays for all clergy and people, let us soon come to grief and may God save us.”

On April 19, the Russian Orthodox Church celebrates the feast of the Resurrection of Christ (Easter). The preceding week (Holy Week) is especially important for believers, many of whom, as a rule, try to attend church services these days.

On the eve of the authorities in Moscow and Moscow region announced new measures aimed at combating the spread of coronavirus. The most important step was the introduction of access control from Monday.
