Moravia and Silesia were hit by torrential rains. Firefighters drew water from cellars or lagoons

Due to torrential rains in Moravia and Silesia, firefighters drew water from cellars or lagoons on Friday evening and night on Saturdays and also cut trees. Hundreds of interventions have been taking place since Friday afternoons, confirmed regional spokesmen for firefighters. There is also a risk of flooding in the north-eastern part of the Czech Republic, until Saturday afternoon.

In connection with the weather, firefighters in the Novojičín region went to 78 interventions, in the Opava region to 38 and in the Karviná region to 21 interventions. They intervened in the Frýdek-Místek region fourteen times.

There is also a risk of flooding in the north-eastern part of the Czech Republic, until Saturday afternoon. In some places, water levels may rise to the highest flood level. This follows from the warning of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI).

At first, storms raged in the Novojičín region, in Jeseník nad Odrou torrential rain flooded individual cellars and spaces in the center of the village. “Firefighters had to protect the transformer station from the flood – they dug several temporary canals from the created lagoon into the river, and thus they managed to keep the water level below the critical point. They also protected the culture house from flooding.

In Studénka, the Butovický brook overflowed from the banks, because of that it was not possible to drive through several streets. When the water receded, firefighters drained the flooded houses until late.

“The same situation occurred later in Ostrava. Firefighters had to pump water from several garages, clear canals or remove several trees after 20:00. In some places, firefighters built dams from sacks to direct the water to places where it would not cause damage,” Kozák said. .

On the extended Rudná, road I / 11, the slope slid onto the road after heavy rain. Firefighters removed the mud deposits and released both lanes.

“In Dobroslavice in the Opava region, the wind damaged the asbestos roof, and the water began to flow into the house. In other parts of the region, firefighters dealt with the consequences of torrential rains .

The water flooded the cellars and streets in the Frýdek-Místek region. Firefighters drained several ditches in Jablunkov to reduce the risk of water flooding adjacent family houses.

Since the morning, firefighters have also continued to repair the damage after the evening storms in southern Moravia, which hit the area around Pohořelice south of Brno in particular. They most often draw water from the cellars, they have had a total of over 60 interventions in connection with the rain since Friday evening.

Firefighters in the Olomouc Region also employed the removal of fallen trees. In connection with the storms, they recorded almost 40 departures in the region from Friday afternoon to this morning

After the rains, the levels of some streams rose. According to information from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, the first degree of flood activity, ie vigilance, applies in several places in the region. These are the Odra River in Odry, Bartošovice and Ostrava-Svinov and the Opava River in Děhylov.
