Miscellaneous – Justice | Travelers settle in Parc de l’Orangerie

Caravans have occupied the Orangerie park in Hayange since Monday. A little less than ten vehicles are listed. The travelers forced the padlock that closed the gate to enter the site.

Their presence was noted by the municipal police and the national police with the services of the City who went there. A complaint has been filed. “It’s a real problem. There are passage areas reserved for them, there is still room in Marly, for example, with sanitary facilities and electricity. But since you have to pay a tax… ”laments the mayor of the city, Fabien Engelmann.

The new occupants of the Parc de l’Orangerie are connected to the fire hydrants to supply themselves with water. A generator set has been deployed.

“State powerlessness and laxity”

An eviction procedure is underway. The response time is usually around ten days, but the police hope for an amicable mediation. Too long a delay, according to Fabien Engelmann, who points to “the powerlessness and laxity of the State and the prefect [plus] quick to act to seize the administrative court and impose the reopening of elementary schools and nursery schools in Hayange despite the health risk. ”

“As soon as we leave, we will block access to the park with concrete blocks, at the taxpayer’s expense,” he regrets.

This illegal occupation follows many similar facts observed in the area in recent days. Some of the new residents of the Parc de l’Orangerie arrived from Florange, where they had set up camp on land on rue Descartes. In Thionville, several caravans have also taken over the AS Œutrange football field.

For two years, the reception areas reserved for travelers (Veymerange, Volstroff, Nilvange) have been subject to significant damage (theft, fires, destruction …) leading to their temporary closure. Currently, only Yutz’s is open.
