The Comptroller General of the Republic asked the Ministry of the Interior to inform if the vaccine against covid-19 is required for health officials.

The measure was taken due to a query made by the director of the Talagante Hospital, Claudio Roman Codoceowho considers it appropriate to ensure the vaccination of all health officials, since they are the main exposed.

In this context, Román pointed out that “ensuring that all health officials have the complete vaccination schedule is an act consistent with the preventive measures that are required of the population, and on the other hand, it doubles the safety of our officials. against any variant that could appear”.

“It is incredible that after two years of COVID-19, this issue is still not clear to the front line of healthadded the manager.

In the document sent to the Comptroller’s Office, it is stated that “successive queries regarding the enforceability that could be made to our officials and servers in order to have their complete vaccination system against COVID-19, despite the fact that such regulations are not possible. requirement”.

On February 17, the controlling entity forwarded the request to the Ministry of the Interior, giving it 10 days to respond.

In his argument, Román indicates that “in art. 184 of the Labor Code, which establishes the principle according to which the duty of care lies with the employer towards his workers and consists of the adoption by the employer of various security measures in order to protect and safeguard life and health of its workers.

“This issue is a priority not only for the specific issue of coronavirus, but also for any epidemic situation that arises and in the face of which, it is always chosen to support and strengthen the front line of health, who, due to their performance, almost all of their work schedules will be exposed,” he added.

At another point in his argument, the director of the Talagante Hospital alludes to the “jurisprudence of the Comptroller General of the Republic that, with Opinion No. 3,610, of 2020, indicates that ‘in the face of a pandemic such as the one that affects the national territory, it corresponds to the organs of the State Administration to adopt the measures that the legal system confers to them in order to protect the life and health of their servants, avoiding their unnecessary exposure to possible contagion; to protect the continuity of the public service and to ensure the general well-being of the population’”.
