The Ministry of Health aims for October to achieve vaccination against COVID-19 of 15 million Peruvians with both doses, without continuing to advance in the inoculation schedule.
This was pointed out by the Deputy Minister of Public Health, Gustavo Rosell, who also pointed out that during this month the arrival of 14 million vaccines is scheduled, which has ensured the provision of the first and second doses against COVID-19, according to the sector’s schedule.
“The real goal this month is to reach the 15 million people protected with the doses. That does not mean that we leave vaccinate the young, but above all we will be looking for those who are missing their second dose, “he said.
“This month our estimate is 14 million vaccines. We have 6 million insured, additionally one million 900,000 of AztraZeneca and 8 million that should arrive this month ”, he added.
In addition, the vice minister pointed out that the sector is making great efforts, through various strategies, to reach populations that have comorbidities.
Eventual third wave and reduction of possible deaths
Meanwhile, the Vice Minister of Health Insurance, Bernardo Ostos, said that more than 750,000 people over the age of 41 have not yet received the second dose of the vaccine against COVID-19.
“Of this total of people, 25% still do not have the conviction of the importance of the vaccine, hence the urgency to reach them because they are in danger of developing serious diseases due to the infection,” he said.
He also argued that it is not possible to rule out an eventual third wave of the pandemic Along these lines, he highlighted the efficacy of vaccines in the country and their importance in reducing vulnerability to infection.
He added that as of August 1, with coverage of 5.3 million citizens with both doses of the vaccine, the projection of possible deaths from a third wave was 115,000 people nationwide.
This projection varied to September 23, when 10.2 million citizens had both doses. Then the number of possible deaths was reduced to 62,000 people.
As for the four people infected with the delta plus variant, the officials indicated that they are duly monitored and have presented very mild symptoms.
One of them is a young man who had only received one dose of the vaccine against the new coronavirus.
