Ministers in Romania are resigning, a government crisis is brewing

The leader of one of the two smaller partners in Romania’s ruling three-party coalition has announced that his party’s ministers will resign tomorrow morning and that a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Florin Katsu will begin in parliament in Bucharest. This was reported by Reuters, quoted by BNR.

Dan Barna, who heads the liberal centrist Union for the Salvation of Romania-Freedom, Unity, Solidarity party, said he would continue to support the ruling coalition as long as Katsu of the National Liberal Party is no longer prime minister.

The third partner in the government is the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania.

The scandal between Prime Minister Katsu and Barna erupted after the justice minister was fired by Barna’s party, which opposed a 10 billion-euro program to finance municipal infrastructure projects.
