Ministers discuss corona measures in Catshuis

Part of the outgoing cabinet will talk this afternoon in Prime Minister Rutte’s official residence with the Outbreak Management Team about new corona relaxation. Among other things, it is being looked at whether the one and a half meter rule can be abolished and whether there is one in more places mandatory corona admission ticket has to come. The face mask obligation and the question of whether more is possible for the event industry and night catering are also discussed.

Next Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Rutte and Minister Hugo de Jonge will announce at a press conference how far the relaxation will go and whether the corona check app should be shown more often. The relaxation and the extra measure would start on Saturday 25 September.

At the preliminary consultation in the Catshuis today, the experts of the Outbreak Management Team will say what the consequences of relaxation are for the number of infections and the pressure on healthcare. The meeting starts at 1:00 PM.

Patience

Minister De Jonge has said several times in recent weeks that he hopes for the abolition of, for example, the one and a half meter rule. 85 percent of Dutch adults have received at least one shot and they are running out of patience with the restrictive rules. “The stretch is out,” De Jonge said again and again.

If the one and a half meter rule disappears, a corona admission ticket would have to be shown in several places, just like in France. The cabinet is thinking of the catering industry, all kinds of places to go out and art and culture performances.

The event industry and the night catering industry are fervently hoping for relaxation. went yesterday tens of thousands of people, in ten different cities, the street to encourage the cabinet to further reopen the events sector.

Mondkapjesplicht

It doesn’t look like it that the cabinet, like the Danish government, will stop all corona measures. “We are not yet off the hook,” De Jonge said on Friday. He also emphasized the disadvantages of lifting the mask requirement in public transport. He said that it should not be underestimated that this will make many people feel extra vulnerable on the train, tram and bus.

“Then I think of people with a weak immune response – who have been vaccinated, but who may not be as successful. They won’t be happy about being stuck up against someone who is ‘aerosolising’ all the time on their neck. ‘.”
