According to Minister of the Interior Annelies Verlinden (CD&V), the Consultation Committee will meet ‘much faster than expected’ to discuss new measures. She does not rule out the possibility that this will already happen on Friday.

That is what Verlinden says in a conversation with The morning on Radio 1. ‘What must, must. No one had hoped to end up in this fourth wave, but we have to take our responsibility.”
She refers to the cry for help that general practitioners and hospitals make. “I think we have to act much faster than initially foreseen, and that also means that we can take extra measures in the coming days.”
The minister does recall that Prime Minister Alexander De Croo (Open VLD) is authorized to convene the Consultation Committee with the various regions, although there are also consultations with her about this. ‘We have always said that we can act quickly if necessary. If the figures present themselves like this, then I think we should also take measures.’
Verlinden argues in favor of taking ‘targeted’ measures in activities ‘where a great deal of dissemination can take place’. It specifically refers to ‘sectors that are confronted with measures that are difficult to comply with’. She mentions the discos as an example, but it is difficult to respect the distance rules. ‘I think those sectors also need clarity’. For example, for restaurants where people can keep their distance at the table, there is no problem as far as she is concerned. She does not want to call a ‘lockdown’ a possible tightening, she said on Radio 1.
