Let us remember that the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Valle del Cauca (CVC) took into custody and transferred in a controlled manner 102 nocturnal monkeys Aotus sp. and 6 of Saimiri sp., also known as squirrel monkeystowards the rural area of ​​Palmira.

In this place, they were placed under the custody of a veterinary medical team from the Corporation. The operation was carried out in collaboration with the Police, the Sijin, the Army and the Humanitarian Demining Battalion No. 6, and was described by the Prosecutor’s Office as the largest wildlife rescue carried out to date.

During the seizure, various irregularities were found in the animals, such as the presence of parasites, alterations in the blood count and blood biochemistry, associated with stress and dehydration.

In addition, amputations were identified, old fractures and skin lesions on phalanges (fingers), presence of tartar, wear, fractures and absence of teeth, as well as skin lesions on the lips. In one of the individuals, the absence of an eyeball was recorded.

After an exhaustive legal process, the CVC imposed on the Primate Center Foundation – Fucep a fine of $299,629,149, and the Caucaseco Scientific Research Center society, another fine of $799,011,065. This determination also confirms the definitive confiscation of the primates, which are currently in the recovery process under the care of the Corporation.

Additionally, both entities were subjected to a temporary and partial closure of their establishments in everything related to work related to wildlife research. It is important to clarify that this failure corresponds to an initial stage of the process.
