Migrant families receive toys and blankets this Christmas – Telemundo San Diego (20)

A few weeks ago, through Telemundo 20, we announced the request of the youth 2000 migrant shelter in Tijuana, where the need for blankets to mitigate the low temperatures was prevalent at this time, as migrant families take refuge in tents at the interior of a property located in the north of the city. The call was heard, and the blankets arrived accompanied by a joy that only children can express. Personalized gifts for each of the little ones who live in the shelter awaiting political asylum in the United States. “I feel all good, happy because Santa Claus brought me this,” said Johana, a 6-year-old migrant from Honduras.

“I’ve always wanted to have cars and lots of toys. I have two pairs of cars and an airplane in the other piece of box and I feel very happy because Santa Claus brought them to me,” said Hamilton, a 6-year-old migrant.

Santa did not dress in red or arrive by sleigh, now, the Christmas tree was covered with gifts, thanks to the support of the binational Foundation Tijuana without hunger and Busca la Paz, and the entire community that joined for this noble cause.

“It fills my heart a lot, my soul, to be able to see such beautiful smiles of children, innocence is something precious and right now that they opened their gifts, nothing can make me happier as a better Christmas present,” Maru Riqué told Telemundo 20 , Director of the Tijuana Sin Hambre Foundation.

According to migrant families in such difficult times, bringing these kinds of gifts to children is an invaluable act. “And even more, the happiness of our children is the most important thing that God pays them and that God bless them for everything they have done,” said Paola Espinoza, Honduran migrant refugee in “youth 2000 movement.”

An altruistic activity that has been replicated with more than 500 families in these days of giving. Low-income families and vulnerable areas, and this time with the migrant community on the border. “They have the right to live and have a happy life, they are very hard-working people, we should not see them as strangers or as enemies, but rather they are brothers who teach us to love to fight for a dream as they have done,” said Raquel Guerra, Busca activist peace.

A support that also filled the pantry of the shelter to be able to feed the migrant families who have a foster home in this place. Therefore, directors of the institution were grateful for this work. “Thank you very much for this great help for this great blessing in these difficult times, which we are very pleased that you have come to share with the migrants from here at the 2000 youth hostel,” said José María García, Coordinator of Alianza Migrante Tijuana.

The smile of the little ones when receiving the toys is invaluable, however mothers seek to fulfill one more wish and be able to have this political asylum and cross to the United States. “Like being with the family on the other side and not waiting, you have to be patient. That is the wish that this December they will all tell us, oh what happiness!” said Mrs. Espinoza. A wish that will remain on the waiting list for now.
