Middle, four-year sentence to a citizen reporter who informed the corona situation… UN calls for release

A Chinese court sentenced a citizen reporter to four years in prison earlier this year, who covered the situation in Wuhan, Hubei Province, where Corona 19 first spread.

The Shanghai Pudong New District People’s Court yesterday decided the medium sentence for Zhang Zan, a citizen reporter accused of “public turmoil,” Zhang’s lawyer said.

Public uproar charges have a maximum sentence of five years, which Chinese authorities have applied mainly when trying to silence critical figures.

Currently, many citizen reporters who have reported on the Corona 19 situation in Wuhan, such as Chen Chus and Fang Bin, have been detained or missing.

This is the first time a court ruling has been issued on a related case.

Zhang Zan, who is also a former lawyer, interviewed the Wuhan area in February and criticized the authorities for blocking the city without revealing enough information to the residents.

We also uploaded videos of patients wearing oxygen masks lined up in hospital corridors and crematoriums full of people.

Chinese authorities have since detained Jang-Jan for spreading false information.

Earlier this month, when Jang Jang, who was in custody, began a hunger strike, controversy arose when the authorities inserted a tube to the stomach and forced to supply nutrients.

It is said that Jang Jang said that he would fast until the end if he was sentenced to a medium sentence when he interviewed his lawyer last week.

Jang Jan’s lawyer has said that Jang Jan is currently in poor health.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has pointed out that it is deeply concerned about the sentence of four years in prison to citizen journalist Jang Jan.

The Human Rights Office has consistently demanded the release of Jang Jan, saying that Jang Jan’s case is an example of excessive crackdown on freedom of expression in relation to Corona 19.
