MADRID (EUROPA PRESS) .- Microsoft is once again the most listed company with the highest market capitalization, thus surpassing Apple, whose shares suffered a correction of more than 3 percent this Friday, after the results of the iPhone manufacturer disappointed Wall Street on the impact of supply chain problems and the potential drag on the company’s accounts during the crucial Christmas season.
With more than an hour of trading on the New York Stock Exchange, Microsoft’s securities appreciated almost 1 percent in the session to reach a market capitalization of 2.46 trillion dollars (2.11 trillion euros).
On his side, Apple shares yielded 3.60 percent compared to yesterday, which reduced the market capitalization of the Cupertino firm to 2.43 billion dollars (2.09 billion euros).
Thus, so far this year, Microsoft’s shares have appreciated more than 48 percent, while Apple’s shares are trading 12 percent above the level registered at the end of 2020.
After the close of the session on Thursday, Apple reported that a net profit of 94 thousand 680 million dollars (81 thousand 422 million euros) was recorded at the end of its fiscal year, which runs from October to September, an increase of 64.9 percent compared to the previous year, although it warned of the impact on its accounts of the problems of the supply chain.
In this sense, during the conference with analysts after the publication of the Apple accounts, Tim Cook, CEO of the multinational, recognized that the evolution of the last quarter of the multinational reflected an adverse impact of about 6 billion dollars ( 5 thousand 156 million euros) derived from supply restrictions, “and that affected the iPhone, iPad and Mac.”
The chief executive of Apple pointed out that this problem was motivated by the shortage of chips, as well as manufacturing interruptions related to covid-19 in Southeast Asia, although he stressed that this second factor has improved in recent months so that the lack of chips will be the main element of the supply problems.
“It will affect, it is affecting, I should say, practically most of our products today, but from a demand point of view, the demand is very strong,” said Cook, who acknowledged that the impact of the restrictions in the current quarter it will be even greater than the 6 billion dollars corresponding to the period between July and September.
On its side, Microsoft had announced days before that in the first three months of its fiscal year a profit of 20 thousand 505 million dollars (17 thousand 690 million euros) had been recorded, which is equivalent to an increase of 47.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, with a year-on-year increase of 22 percent in revenues, up to 45 thousand 317 million dollars (39 thousand 97 million euros).
