Michael Apted, Director of Gorillas in the Mist, The Chronicles of Narnia and more passes away

We are not even a week into 2021 and we already have news of one of the first losses of the year. This is the British director Michael Apted. The director was president of the Directors Guild of the United States for six years, from 2003 to 2009. The most outstanding work of Apted, who began his television career in 1964, was undoubtedly The Miner’s Daughter. That film is a biographical musical about country singer Loretta Lynn, from her teenage years until she became one of the most influential stars of that genre. The film starred actress Sissy Spacek and was nominated for 7 Oscars in 1981, eventually winning the statuette for its leading lady.

The British career does not stop there. In 1988 he also managed to capture the attention of the Hollywood Academy after his film Gorillas in the Mist. This film, which is also inspired by a true story, tells the story of a woman who decides to dedicate her life to the study and preservation of these primates in Rwanda. The film starred Sigourney Weaver, right after the tremendous success it had with Alien – The Eighth Passenger – 97% and its sequel. She was also nominated for an Oscar for her performance in this collaboration with Apted.

They both worked together on the drama Nell – 53%, film about a young adolescent girl’s problems adjusting to living in a community after being raised in isolation by her mother in a cabin. This story is the adaptation of a work of the same name. It was one of the best films in which this interpreter worked after the success of El Silencio de los Inocentes – 94%.

Apted also worked on major franchises and directed the James Bond installment 007: El Mundo Not Enough – 51%, as well as the fifth installment of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader – fifty%.
