“I have nothing more to add than what we have already said: we ask Ecuador to work with Mexico to find a solution to their dispute”The State Department spokesperson said in a press conference, Matthew Miller.

This Thursday, the Mexican Government presented a complaint against Ecuador before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in which he demands that the South American country be suspended from the UN until its authorities apologize for the break-in at the Mexican embassy.

The UN General Secretariat explained this Thursday that the eventual expulsion of Ecuador would depend on the member states and said that it hopes that “the tensions between Ecuador and Mexico will be addressed through dialogue.”

Mexico broke diplomatic relations with Ecuador after Ecuadorian police officers stormed the Mexican embassy in Quito last Friday to arrest the former Ecuadorian vice president. Jorge Glaswho is being prosecuted for corruption and had requested political asylum at the diplomatic mission.
