Messi’s crazy list of requests

Lionel Messi’s future (35) will be fought hard again next year at the latest. Paris St. Germain will try everything to extend the expiring contract. But FC Barcelona also dreams of the return of the prodigal son.

Continue under the announcement

A little over a year ago, Messi left the Camp Nou for France. Another year earlier, in the summer of 2020, Barça had tried intensely for an extension, but in the end in vain.

The Spanish “El Mundo” now discovers a long list of requests made by Messi and Father Jorge for a signature. Gradually, more and more points were added in the negotiations that Barça could not and did not want to meet for financial reasons.

The requirements

1) A contract until 2023 with a unilateral extension option for Messi.

2) A 20% salary reduction linked to the crown in the 2020/21 season, but a refund of ten percent of the salary in each of the following two seasons, including interest of three percent per year.

3) Payment of outstanding loyalty premiums with interest.

4) A box for the families of Messi and his friend Luis Suárez.

5) A private Christmas flight for the whole family to Argentina.

6) In the event of termination of the contract, continued payment of the salary in the 2020/21 season plus interest.

7) A signing fee of ten million euros.

8) In case of a tax increase in Spain, these costs should be passed on to the club. All pending bonuses must be paid including interest.

9) The “abolition” of the release clause, reduced from 700 million euros to a symbolic figure of 10,000 euros.

10) The extension of the contract with his friend and supervisor Pepe Costa for the same duration of his contract.

11) The payment of the pending commission to his brother Rodrigo Messi.

Switch to PSG

On 25 June 2020, the then president of the club, Josep Bartomeu, responded to Messi’s camp: the club was unable to collect the deposit due to the crown pandemic. They also did not want to lower the exit clause. The rest is history. Messi faxes his release on August 24, Bartomeu refuses to say goodbye, and Messi joins PSG on a free transfer a year later.
