Danny Makkelie, a Dutch policeman born in Curaçao, has been appointed by UEFA to lead the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 between the Real Madrid and Atalanta next Tuesday. Makkelie is assisted by his companions Hessel Steegstra and Mario Diks.
To be the first time that Makkelie has refereed both teams. The referee has refereed 28 Champions League matches to date, six of them this season, including this season’s Juevntus-Barcelona with a Barça victory. Pit also the final of the Europa League last season in which Sevilla beat Inter Milan.
