Mental and physical abuse. Covid has dramatically increased cases of domestic violence

According to the Equality in the Czech Republic survey, up to 95 percent of victims have experienced less visible psychological violence for IKEA. This could be the case, for example, when a man forbids a woman from having contact with family or friends, verbally threatens her, disproportionately controls her activities or restricts her access to shared money.

“Whether you do this or that, it’s still wrong. I had to take the pills for pressure and still live with the feeling – I’ll go later what he will do again. Will he shout, crack or smash things? ”Mrs. Hana from Ostrava describes her fear on the White Circle of Safety website. After the forced departure of a domestic tyrant, her health visibly improved.

“For many women and children, not only is home nowadays a dangerous place from which it is not easy to escape. That is why we must join forces and offer quick and effective help, “says Branislava Marvánová Vargová, Head of the ROSA Information and Counseling Center.

Don’t look away

That is why IKEA, in cooperation with the Coalition NeNa (No Violence Against Women), has prepared a two-year project that should draw attention to various forms of domestic violence and support public debate on this phenomenon. IKEA will contribute 3.8 million crowns to non-profit organizations. The campaign will start on November 25, which has been the International Day against Violence against Women since 1999.

Domestic brutality also has financial implications. As Marvánová Vargová points out, it annually represents expenditures of 1.4 billion crowns, which the state must spend on police interventions, medical treatment, therapy or asylum housing.
