Medieval festival: event agency wants to sue Stavenhagen – commitment, radio silence, refusal?

In fact, Joachim Rudolf has always worked well with Stavenhagen for almost 25 years with his event agency in Rostock. But now the organizer is extremely disappointed with Reuterstadt. Because he is said to have prevented a historical show scheduled together in August. But he doesn’t want to be left alone at the cost of several thousand euros. He is demanding damage to the city and wants to sue, he told Nordkurier. For the 750th anniversary in 2014, Rudolf had recently organized a historical show in the castle courtyard, brought a medieval atmosphere to Reuterstadt, and hired various artists.

Confirmation, radio silence, refusal?

“The people of Stavenhagen will surely remember that,” he says. From his point of view, the event was well received at the time and attracted hundreds of enthusiastic people. It was decided with the then mayor that there would be another such show in Stavenhagen in six or seven years. Indeed, talks for 2021 were held two years ago with his successor, Stefan Guzu, who was also impressed. But he had been postponed due to Corona.

After another meeting in September 2021, the city was given a revised concept for the December community event. In March he was promised in writing that the contract for the historic show had been approved from 19 to 21 August. “For me, this was the sign that I could conclude contracts with the participants,” says Rudolf.

The case went to the lawyer

Then there was radio silence. When asked in June, he was informed that the main committee rejected the event because the financial risk was too great. Another attempt to persuade the committee failed.

He says that with the “road toll”, ie the entrance, the show would have been largely refinanced. That is why he is so angry and thinks it is a shame that the people of Stavenhagen have to do without the experience, when everyone is happy that the culture can take place. Rudolf wanted to avoid a legal dispute, but he sees no other way out. He has entrusted the case to a lawyer, who is now drafting a complaint.

The mayor is quiet about the cause

But it doesn’t seem to have reached the city yet. As Mayor Stefan Guzu said, no information has yet been received. They would also be able to calmly wait for him. Because there was no actual contract between the city and the Event Company Nord & Veranstaltungsagentur Rudolf GmbH. Therefore, the assertion of a claim for damages has no chance of success.

Guzu confirms that, given the tight financial situation and budget consolidation, the city did not want to take the risk of costs. Rudolf was informed that a contract could only be concluded after approval of the budget. It wasn’t like that in March. “I am very sorry that Mr. Rudolf has decided to take legal action, because the cooperation with him has been very good in recent years,” said Guzu. “If Mr. Rudolf were to organize a historical show in Stavenhagen in 2023, the city would very much appreciate this project.” Hopefully, the relationship of trust will not be completely destroyed by then.
