McKinsey: Companies cut travel budgets by up to 50 percent / Wirtschaft Deutschland / Wirtschaftsnachrichten / / report-k.de

Business news Economy Germany

Berlin | Even after the end of the Corona crisis, the German economy is planning significantly fewer business trips than before. “Companies have reduced their travel budgets by 40 to 50 percent,” said the Germany boss of the McKinsey consultancy, Fabian Billing, of “Welt am Sonntag”.

Accordingly, the companies are currently working out specific plans to prepare for the end of the pandemic.

Billing expects that there will still be open-plan offices: “I do not assume that companies that have worked successfully in flexible working environments will suddenly move back in walls. The office as a space for meeting, teamwork and creativity will be more important than ever.” In addition, the McKinsey Germany boss called for the German export model to be questioned.

“In the past, exports have benefited from globalization, among other things. That cannot be increased indefinitely.” All the more reason for Germany to need restructuring, not a “new coat of paint”.

The decarbonization of the economy could also be a catalyst for more growth and prosperity.
