In Serbia, thousands of people in Belgrade and other cities today, November 27, blocked bridges and roads in protest against new laws on referendum and expropriation. It is reported by Radio Liberty.
Transport was blocked for several hours. In Belgrade and Novy Sad, the police detained ten protesters.
The protests were organized by environmental and other non-governmental organizations.
Protesters are unhappy with the new expropriation law, which allows government agencies to take private property at a low cost.
The protesters argue that the authorities are thus providing foreign companies with what citizens have been making money for for decades.
The organizers of the protests believe that the new law, the authorities seek to change the constitution and legalize the sale of mines and other state property to foreign companies.
