German engineer who returned to China tested positive – Observer

A German engineer who returned by plane to work in China tested positive for the new coronavirus as soon as he arrived in the country, AFP. On that flight other workers followed, mainly Germans, who returned to China to work. They have all been tested and are now in quarantine.

The 34-year-old man had no symptoms when he left Frankfurt, yet he is already in the hospital, while the remaining passengers remain in quarantine.

On the flight that left Frankfurt and landed Saturday in Tianjin, 100 kilometers from Beijing, about 200 employees followed their families. The flight signaled the return of Europeans to China since the suspension of their visas in late March, due to the pandemic.

China closed the country’s borders at the end of March, even to those who had work and residence visas, in order to prevent a new outbreak of infections.
