Marvel: Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter) reflects on Captain America: Civil War controversy

Emily VanCamp, the singer of Sharon Carter in the MCU, spoke again about the controversial scene of Civil War in which his character embraces Captain America.

While the MCU’s move to Disney + will allow the Extended Universe to introduce new superheroes and superheroines, it has also recall forgotten characters that we thought we would never see again as Jimmy Choo (Randall Park) and Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) in WandaVision or Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) in Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

As a reminder, the former SHIELD agent and great-great-niece of Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) appeared in Captain America: The Winter Soldier before reappearing in Captain America : Civil War where she started hanging out with Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), who eventually returned to live in the past with Peggy at the end ofAvengers : Endgame, leaving in suspension the kiss they exchanged in Civil War.

How do we sting the exes of dead great aunts now?

Like the abandoned romance between Black Widow and Hulk, the MCU swept aside that plot point that already left Emily VanCamp dubious at the time of filming. As she recently explained to Collider, the actress was not sure where all of this would lead her character and the story:

En somehow you have confidence and you hope it will all make sense in the end. There were times when I asked myself, “Are we going too far with this? Shouldn’t this just be a friendly moment?” I didn’t really know. I don’t think any of us really knew that. I don’t think it’s anyone’s fault that it didn’t totally work out in the story.

I don’t think anyone knew where it was going or what we were going to do with this moment. It was a tender moment, so it’s hard to answer something like, “It was a terrible time and it didn’t make sense”, because at that point everyone was doing their best to serve the world. ‘history. We were all doing, I think, the best we could and something awesome came out of it which was that dynamic between Sam and Bucky in the car. […] Now we have The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”

After the soft twist of the finale of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it is almost certain that Sharon Carter is far from done now that she has been exhumed from the depths of the Extended Universe. It just remains to be seen when fans will be able to meet her again. For more Marvel, we will have to wait until June 11 for the launch of Loki, which also unveiled a new teaser a few days ago.

While waiting to learn more about the role that Sharon Carter will play in the MCU, we look back on Marvel’s transition on this side.
