Many health complaints in at-home corona patients Inland

“We are really shocked by this,” says director Michael Rutgers of the Longfonds. “It is the first time that this large patient group has been visualized. These people really need to be seen, heard and helped. ”

Of the people who cooperated – they had actively reported questions about recovery – 91 percent have never been hospitalized because of corona, 43 percent have not been diagnosed by a doctor. By far the largest group (85 percent) say their health was good before the corona infection. Now that is only 6 percent.

Even walk

Almost half say they can no longer exercise after corona, more than 6 in 10 even have problems walking. “That is shocking,” says Rutgers. “These are healthy people who are now wondering if they will ever fully recover from corona.”

More than 1 in 5 say they have had no aftercare and are very dissatisfied with it. “It seems that we are dealing with an invisible group of patients who are in danger of falling between two stools. We have to prevent that, ”says the director.

“Can’t go anywhere”

Charissa Rehling (29) is one of the patients. “I have been at home for twelve weeks now and I still have a lot of problems with the virus, I can hardly do anything in one day. I feel that I have nowhere to go with my complaints, there is no safety net for patients like me. ”

People can report their complaints via coronalongplein.nl, a digital platform of the Long Alliance Netherlands (LAN) and the Longfonds. Rutgers: “We are learning more and more about the course of the disease. The questions and complaints should guide the care, treatment and supervision of this new patient group. ”
