NEW YORK — Authorities are investigating an alleged fight Monday inside a Manhattan subway in which one of those involved later died, the New York City Police announced.
According to police information, the incident occurred at around 2:25 pm inside an F line train at the Broadway station and Lafayette street in the Noho area. Upon arrival at the scene, they found an unconscious 30-year-old man who was transported to the hospital where he was declared dead.
Upon investigation, authorities found that prior to the discovery, the 30-year-old man and a 24-year-old man had allegedly gotten into a dispute that ended in a physical fight. The youngest apparently tried to stop the person who died, who according to reports was supposed to be the attacker.
Authorities briefly took the 24-year-old away for questioning, but he was later released.
Police did not release details of what led to the fight and the man’s cause of death. Authorities said the 30-year-old man had prior arrests, but the nature of those offenses was not immediately clear.
This is a case under investigation.
