Mañalich insists on the importance of the bivalent vaccine after the increase in infections and variants in China | National

Health specialists have described the bivalent vaccination program as a failure, due to the low level of coverage achieved in the population.

More than two months after the government announced the start of the bivalent vaccination campaign against COVID-19, specialists have warned that the program has been a “failure”due to the low coverage of its application, which does not reach 50% of the target population.

The former minister of Health, Jaime Manalichhe was critical of the campaign and stressed the importance of taking preventive measures, facing winter next year.

Furthermore, he warned that the bivalent vaccine should play a leading role.

“It is more probable that the future of the evolution of the covid over the next year does not bode well, given this catastrophe that is taking place in China with new infections and the appearance of new variants. In this context, the measures for the winter must be accentuated and among these the bivalent vaccination is the most important”She said

In the case of the elderly population – ie from 60 years onwards – the vaccine reaches 23% coverage; while of those suffering from chronic diseases, only 3.4% received the vaccination.

The low coverage achieved by the vaccine is due to the decrease in social concern about the pandemic, which is called a “pandemic fatigue”and which has generated a decline in the sense of urgency in the population.

That’s what the doctor said Juan Carlos Saidwho underlined the urgency of adopting measures by the Minsal, to bring vaccination closer to people again.

The appeal of the authorities is that the highest risk groups become aware, especially in the regions with the lowest coverage, such as the regions of Tarapacá and Los Lagos, with 28%.

As for covid-19 infections, the Ministry of Health reported 4,256 new cases, with 17.60% national positivity and 24 deaths from causes related to the disease in the last 24 hours.
