A dramatic galactic triplet is at the center of this image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, which captures the gravitational attraction in three directions between interacting galaxies. This system – known as Arp 195 – is featured in the Atlas of Strange Galaxies, a list showing some of the alien and more beautiful galaxies in the universe.
Observation time with Hubble is so precious that astronomers don’t want to waste a second. Hubble’s schedule of observations is a. calculated computer algorithm This allows the spacecraft to occasionally collect bonus data snapshots between longer observations.
Picture of this colliding triplet Galaxy in Arp 195 is such a snapshot.
Additional observations like these don’t just provide spectacular images – they also help identify promising targets for telescopes like NASA’s upcoming James Webb Space Telescope/ESA/CSA to track.
